Dynamics AX: Picking, Registration, Reservation, Marking…What’s the Difference?

Dynamics AX: Picking, Registration, Reservation, Marking…What’s the Difference? The different ways of selecting inventory for issue and receipt and their effects on inventory are a source of confusion for many Microsoft Dynamics AX users. The common denominator between them all is this: They are all ways that the user specifies exact inventory (specific to dimension) to be issued or received. Below is a brief definition of each function and an example of its use. The examples shown are not the only ways to perform each function in AX, but a simple demonstration of the functionality. Picking  in AX is the process of designating which items will be issued based on storage dimension, such as location, batch or serial. Usually, picking in the system coincides with the business process of picking inventory for inventory issue, such as shipment. Example: Sales Order 101278 is for 100 High Definition DVD Players. The DVD Players are stored in more than one Location. The user can pick invent

OPERATION SCHEDULING CAN CREATE JOBS TOO! DETAILS ON OPERATION AND JOB SCHEDULING WITH REGARDS TO SEQUENCING AND DISPATCHING. From the very beginning of Dynamics AX, two scheduling methods, operation scheduling, and job scheduling were available for Master Scheduling and in the Production module. In every AX project, the debate about which one to choose is unavoidable. Most facts regarding the differences between these two scheduling methods are well known. I am adding lesser-known details regarding sequencing/dispatching to this comparison list to provide more assistance in the decision making. There is also an interesting change between 2009 and 2012 that has to be discussed and in fact, triggered this blog. So let’s start mentioning the facts, from the most obvious to the less obvious. This parameter is located here This is the parameter that has the values “Job” or “Route”. As far as manufacturing execution goes, in AX 2012 we now have full freedom to choose which scheduling meth
